Round 11 wrap up

This weekend was going to be a tough assignment, but all sides for Football & Netball were up for the challenge. After getting over Bell Post Hill, East Geelong was going to be a good test for all sides.

D Grade kicked off the games for Senior Netballers. It was a cracking game. Both sides had chances to take control, but tight defences didn’t allow any team to skip away. In the end, the hooter sounded, and East Geelong were victorious by 2 goals. C Grade up next. Again, another tight defensive game by both sides, not allowing any easy goals. Banno were in front by 6, but East came back home strong. This time, hooter sounded and Banno were victors by 1 goal. After a promising couple of weeks by B Grade, this was going to be a test for the ladies. The girls had a great start, but were not able to keep with East, eventually losing by 10 goals. A Grade were to follow next. Another tough game for the day. Our girls were not able to get the ascendency in the game. East were full of run and in the end, the girls went down by 7 goals.

A tough stretch of games for our Seniors and Reserves was starting. Reserves up first. The lads fought valiantly, but East took them to task, moving the ball quickly and decisively through the middle. Our back line was stretched, and eventually East took a lead and held it, winning by 5 goals. Seniors next. It was one of those days for the boys. East moved the ball quickly, opening up the corridor for good entries. Quite a few missed shots by East, kept us in the game. The score line could have been a lot more than 24 points, with approx. 7-8 posters and a few easy shots being missed by East.

For our juniors we start off with U9’s. Banno Gold came up against Modewarre. It certainly was not an expected result. The boys could not really get in to gear and Moda did not allow any easy possession. The boys not able to score, losing by 56pts. U9 Black, had a tough day at the office against Newtown. It was a similar score line, not able to post a score. Final siren, and the lads lost by 72pts. U10 had a game of their life against Inverleigh. A cracking game by all accounts, but the win came Banno’s way by the slimmest of margins… 1pt. U12 girls had a no contest game against St Joseph’s. Not allowing them to get into stride, kicking away winning by 68pts. U12 Gold came up against Newtown. The boys had their chances in front of goal, but were not able to convert, losing by 26pts. U12 Black had a cracking game against Lara. Going goal for goal, it was coming down to the wire. By team securing a 2 point victory over Lara. U14’s came against a very, very strong ammos. A team on top. They did not let the guys get any consistency, going down by 83 pts. U15 girls had another must win game. They came up against Grovey and play 4qtr football. It was a great team effort, keeping them near the top of the ladder. Beating Grovey by 52pts. U16’s Gold came up against Newtown. The Newtown boys had a lot of the footy and kicked inaccurately. The score line could have been unfortunately worse, with the lads losing by 27pts. Our Div 1 U16 side, also played Newtown at Newtown. The result was similar. Not given any chance, Newtown kept us at bay and we eventually lost by 65pts. U18’s came up against Werribee. After going down last game by 3 pts, it was retribution rnd. But that was not to be. Werribee to strong from the outset, winning by 65pts.

In netball the U19 game was going to be a tough test against East. It was not easy, but East finally getting over top to win by 7. U17 girls were too strong. Setting some dominant game style and play, didn’t allow East to come back. Banno winning by 12. It was a loss not expected by U15 GDFL. East too strong and dominant. Our girls not able to keep control, losing by 24. It was a similar story for Banno Black. Ocean Grove too crisp, winning by 21. U13 GDFL girls continued on their merry way. Staying on top, winning by 23. U13 Black had a tough day against Newtown. Not a good day at the office with the ladies losing by 21. Banno gold U13’s had a great day. Crisp passing, netballs hitting the bottom of the nets, the girls winning by 26. In the U'11’s both teams came away with wins. For the Tigers it was another tight contest, but pushed in the last quarter, with some great movement down the court and got across the line by a couple of goals. For the black team, they played a very one sided game against the Ammos, with the ball barely getting past the goal third line. Fantastic shooting from Poppie and Chelsea to seal a very convincing win.
