Round 14 wrap up
Saturday’s games were a much needed win for Football to keep them in the race for the double chance. For Netball, it was a chance to try different combo’s as we come into finals. As GW Giants are in a rebuild phase, it was a good chance for momentum, % and testing new combos for the teams.
It was a great start by the Reserves. A quick fire 3 goal to 5 points, had the guys in a good position. Another 3 goals to 2 quarter had them in a nice position, but that is where is stopped. Giants running rampant through the middle and taking their chances in front saw them lead at 3 quarter time. It was by chance, that Mitch Bartlett sealed the game with the match winner from the boundary line after the siren to win by 4 points.
A much needed win to stay in contact with the top four was needed by our seniors. A great start eased some pressure, but at 3 quarter time we were only up by 2 points. It was a scrap with chances in front of goal hurting us. We kicked 4.4 to 3.6 in the last to hold on for a 10point win. The last 2 minutes of play were heart in your mouth moments, but the lads held on for a gutsy game.
Over on the courts it was a great start by our D Grade. Clearing the path to the goals, with precise movement, it was a great win by the ladies, putting Giants away early to win by 13 goals. C Grade not to be out done, continued in the same fashion. Great movement around the goals and good shooting had the ladies winning by 15 goals. It was a hard fought win by our B Graders. This game was a great win for the ladies as the gritted the charge by the Giants to ensure a 1 goal win. A Grade may it look easy from the get-go. There was no way Giants were going to ruin the party. It was all in and the girls sealing the clean sweep by 55 goals.
Over in the juniors, with byes in the U19 & U17, games started later. It was another win for our U13 GDFL side. They never allowed Giants to get comfortable, winning by 18 goals. Our U15 GDFL side made very light work of the Giants. Clean, fast passing saw the girls jump out and hold easily for a 31 goals win.
The U11’s both had byes and our U13 gold have no scores. Our U13 Black team had a tough game on their hands, eventually succumbing to Torquay by 7 goals. Our U15 Black team unfortunately suffered the same fate against a strong Surf Coast team to lose by 11 goals.
Our U9 Black football team played a very strong Drysdale. With clean kicking in front by Drysdale, we were not able to get in the game, eventually losing by 54pts. U9 Gold made a great contest of the game. With the game being played at both ends, it was up for grabs, but the lads couldn’t seal the game, losing by 11pts. Our U10’s played a very strong Belmont Lions outfit. Some very accurate kicking and passing by Belmont, had the team scratching their heads on what they could do. Belmont sealing the victory/win by 58pts. Our U12 girls starred yet again. With a lot of run and sharing of the footy, the girls had multiple goal kickers. Never letting St Joseph’s in the game, winning by 97pts. U12 Gold made light work of Anglesea. Our team started well and never looked back. It was a great performance, winning by 74pts. Our U12 Black didn’t fair so well against Drysdale. We were held scoreless for the 1st three quarters kicking our only 2 goals in the last to lose in the end by 78pts. Our U14’s played at home against Torquay. This was going to be a great game as always. Both teams played well, and our guys had all the play in the last, peppering the goals. They just couldn’t seal the win, losing by 2 points. Our U15 girls, remained at the top of the ladder playing Leopold & Leopold. A must win game for the double chance and they did it in style winning by 42 pts. It was a very fast start by Leopold in the U16 div 4 comp. Leopold stamped their authority early and never let our boys in. Our boys losing in the end by 34pts. Our Div 1 side came up against a strong Ocean Grove side. Again, another fast start, making it hard to come back for us. With our boys eventually losing by 35pts. Our U18’s ventured to Queenscliff. The Coutas jumping out of the gates and put on the after burners. Some inaccurate kicking by the Coutas, but still a hard day for the guys, eventually losing by 62pts.
Thanks to all those you attended our Sponsors and Volunteers afternoon. We great appreciate all your support throughout the year.
We also had a fantastic night at Hypnomania. JimmyDee had all those who attended in stitches, as he controlled the antics of Scott, Mitch, Meatballs, Georgia and Kaylah.
This week we welcome Anakie to Victoria Park. Plenty going on socially too, with Ladies Day starting at 4.30pm, followed by our very first “Miss Banncokburn” pageant. Definitely not a night to be missed
