Round 10 wrap up
GDFL was back after a short little break over Queens Birthday weekend. The weekend saw the Tigers take on Bell Post Hill at home. It was redemption round after last year’s game. The reserves came out firing. With some injection of strength and more youth, the lads were unstoppable. There was plenty of run and carry and the Tigers had it all their own way. It could have been more, but some inaccurate kicking saw at least 6-7 goals go begging. But a great win by 69 pts.
Seniors were off to a slow start. The Panthers kicked 3.5 to our 1.2 in the 1st quarter. They were physically stronger, bordering on the edge of dirty and the umpires let it go. 2nd quarter was not much better, but deficit was only 9 points. The 2nd half, the game was on our terms. The Panthers couldn’t match what the lads served up, finally kicking away in the last. Again, some inaccurate kicking saw the boys win by 36pts, but the score line could have been 50+.
It was a day out for the Netball division. All teams scoring 40+ goals, it was a great sight to see. D Grade lead the charge with an emphatic win by 32 goals. C Grade went better with a 36-goal victory. B Grade starting to reap the benefits of some consistency, winning by 29 goals and A Grade rose to the top with a massive 58 goal win. The challenge for Netball will be next game against East Geelong.
JUNIOR RESULTS:
Some very mixed results in football and some great results in Netball over the weekend. Let’s start with Netball. The U19’s bounced back nicely after a bye last round. Not to be outdone by their senior counterparts, the ladies were full of run on the court. Dominating the Panthers to win by 52 goals. Our U17’s continued their winning way post bye securing a great win by 14 goals. Securing them in the top 2. U15’s were unstoppable. They had the biggest winning margin, keeping the Panthers to just 1 goal, winning by 69 goals. U15 black in AFL Barwon league, had a tough game on their hands. It was a close game, heart in mouth most of the game, but St Joseph’s secured a win, our girls losing by 4 goals. U13 GDFL continued their onslaught of teams, again another team keeping the Panthers to just 1 goal. U13 Banno Black came up against a strong attacking Surf Coast. Our girls were not really given the opportunity to press hard, eventually going down by 14 goals. U13 Banno Gold on the other hand, pressed hard off a bye round last week. They never game Torquay and opportunity, winning 25 goals. U11 Tigers had a game of the ages. It was a tight contest right through till the end. This game could have gone either way. Unfortunately, it didn’t go their way eventually losing by the slimmest of margins, 1 goal. U11 Black, dominated and dominated well. They kept Leopold scoreless, winning by 22 goals.
In junior football our U18 lads had a tough game against St Mary’s. Having played them before and winning by 1 goal, it was going to be tough. Unfortunately, it was not our day, with the lads going down by 23pts. U16 Div 1 came up against a strong Torquay side. This game had its moments for Banno, but it was the other Tigers that secured the win. Banno losing by 22pts in the end. U16 Div 4 also played against Torquay. This was a much closer affair. This game came right down to the wire. Again, the wrong Tiger outfit securing the win, with Banno losing by 1 goal. U15 girls had a scare in their game against Drysdale. Beating them last time by 28pts, it was Drysdale who held the lead all the way until the last minute, when Neave kicked the winning goal, to secure a 3pt victory. U12 Black, came up against St Joseph’s Jets. They seem to be the team to beat. With our lads not being able to keep up with them, Joey’s piled on 17 goals to win by 98pts. U12 gold faired better in their game against Leopold. Our boys never looking back had the game on their terms early. Eventually kicking away to win by 32 pts. There are no scores from U12 girls, but rumour has it they secured a win over Ocean Grove. U10 boys came up against another Torquay Tigers outfit. It wasn’t to be our day, losing by 77pts at the final siren. U9 Black, played South Barwon. The swans were full of run, not allowing our lads to get going, with our lads losing by 45pts. U9 Gold, round off the results with an emphatic win by 45pts. It was never in doubt as the lads kicked goals early and stayed in front
Round 11 sees us up against East Geelong. This is the second of 3 big games for our senior boys and will be a tough contest for all our netballers.
See you down at Victoria Park for a great day of footy and netball.
