Round 9 wrap up

What an amazing weekend of football & netball to be apart of. Reconciliation week game played against Belmont at Belmont. Our players looked amazing in their jumpers and dresses designed by our Captain Dan Measures and it was amazing to see Football & Netball participate in the smoking ceremony. It was a start to football the 2’s needed. With some attacking flair and great skill, the 2’s outplayed Belmont at every change, setting themselves nicely going into the break. Once half time hit, the margin blew out quickly with the lads winning by 110points.

The Seniors started well with 7 goals, setting the tone for the game. Again, full of run and skill game, put the Lions back in the den early. But the team wasn’t happy at 3qtr time, with the captain imploring the team to finish the way they started. Respond they did, winning by 101pts.

Over on the netball courts something just wasn’t quite working in D grade. The ladies were in touch, but just couldn’t pull back the lead, eventually going down by 16. C grade had a close contest for most of the game. Some great passing, led to some easy scoring which eventually put the game to bed for the ladies, winning by 7. B grade are starting to come together. Some very impressive play and court movement allowed the ladies to stay in front all day. Belmont made a little surge, but the ladies held on for a great 4 goal victory. It was a great tight game in A Grade. Belmont moved the ball very quickly around the court, but the ladies counter attacked and found themselves in the lead. Belmont would bounce back eventually in the last, pulling away to win by 6. A game that slipped away.

JUNIOR RESULTS:

Saturday Netball was kicked off with our U19’s. It was a tight game all the way through, but some inaccurate passing hurt the ladies. Some solid defence and solid shooting kept the game in the balance but in the end, the ladies lost by 3. Our U17, U15’s and U13’s GDFL sides all had bye as Belmont could not field these teams. Our U11 side both had forfeit games, whilst Banno Black U13’s had a bye. U13 Banno gold were on fire. Nothing was going to stop these girls. Some great passing and accurate shooting allowed the girls to pull out an early lead and they never looked back, winning by 18 goals. U15 Black, not to be out done, played amazing as well. Some clean shooting and solid defence saw the scores moved out and the ladies continued to push, winning by 17 goals. Some mixed results in the football. U9 gold had an emphatic win over Nth Geelong at home. Keeping Nth to just 1 goal, winning by 97pts. U9 Black played a well-oiled Sth Barwon. Sth’s had it on their terms, with our lads going down by 34pts. Our U10’s came up against a strong, skilled Drysdale. Our lads never really got a chance to show how good they are, managing to kick a goal, but eventually loosing by 55pts. U12g had a great home win over Ocean Grove. They dominated the play early and continued all day winning by 42pts. U12 Gold and U12 Black were scheduled to play against each other. It was a great game by all reports, with the younger side putting pressure on the older boys. Both teams game together to sing the song which was amazing. Footy the winner in this game. U14’s had a great game. They played well all day, but a couple of areas that hurt them, lead to a drawn game. U15g with some wayward kicking at the start, saw a quick couple of goals by half time. The girls never looked back, keeping Leopold to 2 points. Running away with the game, winning by 31pts. U16 gold played against Inverleigh. With many lads going to school together, this was a bragging rights match. It was a great contest, with our lads coming out on top, winning by 7 pts. U16 Black, played Ocean Grove. A game the lads wanted to win. This game could have gone either way, unfortunately our lads strong enough to come over the top, losing by 7pts. U18’s played a dominant Anglesea. It was going to be a tough assignment for the lads. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to control the game on their terms. Anglesea too strong winning by 69pts.
