Round 7 wrap up
A great day weather wise to play at home. This round saw us play North Geelong, who for both Football and Netball had some handy ins, we could play havoc.
Over on the netball courts it was always going to be a hard day for D Grade with 5 or so players out with illness. It was about limiting any damage and the ladies performed admirably losing by 21. B & C grade had great games. It was to and fro all day, with the games in the balance. Neither side could capitalise on their opportunities to close the gap, both in the end losing by small margins of 7 & 5 goals respectively. Some great positives to be taken away here.
A Grade were fighting hard all day. Skipping away by 4 goals, then North Geelong would come back and take the lead. Girls were playing well. Enter Rosie at after the half complementing Erin in defence and girls started to flow eventually winning by 5.
Across on the oval, for both the Seniors and Reserves, it was a training day for them. Both sides using rebound footy, switching plays and run from behind, there was no way they would be stopped. Both sides had a great win. Seniors winning by 122pts and Reserves by 53pts
In our juniors our U16’s div 1 side started Saturday games on the main oval with a very impressive win over St Joseph’s. The attack and run with the ball, adding sure skills allowed the lads to crush them with a 40pt victory. U18’s followed and had their opportunity to win the game, but just couldn’t hold on in the last with St Albans eventually winning by 37pts. Some great passages of play, something the lads can and will definitely build on. U16 Gold played away at Queenscliff against the Coutas. The boys came up against a formidable side and were left a little shaken, losing by 53pts. Seems like the team to beat at the moment. Our U12 Black team took no mercy on Newcomb. Playing a great brand of footy winning by a huge 151pts. Beating the seniors score line. Banno Gold played a strong Drysdale outfit. Unfortunately, it wasn’t their day losing by 24pts in the end. U10’s didn’t have a great day on the scoreboard. Only able to kick 1.1 for the day, losing to strong Hawks team 106pts. Both U9 teams had winning days over Newcomb and Port. Smiles from ear to ear. Both winning by 26 & 19 pts respectively. U12 girls played Bell Park away and this time Bell Park turned the tables winning by 19pts. The 1st qtr jump by the Dragons meant it was hard to comeback from. U15 girls played at home rounding off the home games with an emphatic win Grovedale by 25pts. With a new found focus and determination, looks like a team to beat. U14 boys rounded off the Sunday games with a loss to Ammos at Ammos. A very tough only managing to kick 3 pts. Head up lads as this team can take on the best.
Our GDFL Netball teams had great wins over North Geelong. U19’s winning by 45, U15’s winning by 14 and U13’s winning by 49. U17’s had a tough game. They came away with a draw, so not 100% disappointing, but the girls were really wanting this scalp. Our U15 Black team lost to a strong Ocean Grove team on Friday night by 7 goals. Both our U13 teams had wins, with Gold crushing Armstrong Creek by 38 and Black holding on by 1 goal. U11 Tigers felt the loss of a numbers of players to illness and lost to South Barwon . Just not able to get their groove on, while U11 black lost to archrivals Inverleigh by 2 goals.
