Round 15 wrap up
Last weekend’s games were another great reboot as we come into finals with only 3 games left. The weekend saw us take on the Anakie Roo’s. It was very much a one sided affair in all grades. Our Seniors had a well earned by win by half time. It was a scrappy affair with the wet conditions, but some very inaccurate kicking (22pts) could have made the score look a lot better. Domination through the mid field allowed us to get on top. Kicking away to win by 84 points.
Reserves turned around the defeat from earlier in the season. A determined Anakie side kick a few goals to keep them in the game, but the lads moved the ball around to catch them off guard and keep them at bay, to scrap a win by 32pts.
It was an easier day for Netball. All grades having a great win. D grade stated well and had Anakie offside from the start. Ladies winning by 13 goals. C Grade made light work of their opponents as well. Anakie did stick close, but the ladies continued to push and move away to win by 15pts. B Grade has a thriller. A tight game all the way to the end. Both teams could not be separated, but our girls came away the victor, by 1 goal. Fresh in their mind, the last time we played, the girls were keen to put the game to bed early, and reasonably early they did. Anakie were no match in the end for our ladies, who in the end sealed victory for the entire Senior grade to win by 18 goals. A great result for the entire Senior Football & Netball division.
In juniors, U18’s played a very strong and inform Modewarre team, the Warriors skipped out early in the first and were never really challenged from there. Our lads did put up a fight, but Moda kicked away in the 2nd. Our lads losing by 47pts. Our U16 Div 1 came up against a fired up St Joey’s. But with the opening goals kicked by Banno, the tone was set. The Tigers ensured a comfortable victory by 63pts. Our U16 Div 4 side played Friday night under lights against old foes Inverleigh. The hawks jumped our team early to swoop in and lead comfortably at the break. Our lads came back, but were just not strong enough, losing in the end by 32pts. Our U15g dominated Geelong West. It was a muddy field, but with early goals, they kept West to 2pts winning and sealing 2nd spot by 48pts. U14’s had a drive to Anglesea to play the Roo’s. Our lads kicking the 1st couple of goals, where then held as Anglesea kicked away. A couple in the last was not enough, eventually losing by 32pts. U12 Black played Newcomb at home. The Power held our boys scoreless until the last, but unfortunately there was no coming back. Our lads going down in the end by 48pts. U12 gold played Friday night against Geelong West. It was a tight affair up till ½ time, when our lads kicked away kicking 9 in the last half to win by 45pts. Our U12 girls played a round robin of 4 games for the Female Festival of sport. Everyone had fun and some great games played. They finish with 2 wins 2 loses. Another tough loss for our U10’s against Portarlington. Our boys managed to kick a goal, but that is where is stayed with Port winning by 60pts. U9 gold had the game on their terms early against Ocean Grove. They did allow them back in the 3rd but held on for an 11pt win. It was much the same for U9 Black. Our lads kicking the first and both teams held to 0 goals in the 2nd, meant our lads outkicked Torquay in the last to win by 14pts.
The U19 Netballers had a tough loss. A game they wanted to win, but it was not to be, losing by 4 goals. U17 girls made light work of the Roos. The game played mostly on our terms, the girls eventually winning by 13. U15 GDFL had a bye. It was a thrilling game for U15 Black. With chances to break away, St Mary’s held on. U15 Black losing by 1 goal. No result for U13 Black. It was an easy day for U13 GDFL. It was no contest, winning by 42 goals. The same can be said for Banno U13 gold. Some great ball movement and defence allowed the girls to win by 33 goals. U11 Banno had a tough game against Grovey. Not really able to get into Stride, Grovey took out the game, our girls going down by 15. U11 Black played Modewarre and it was a different story. Keeping Moda scoreless with great play, our girls wining 20 to 0 at the final siren.
Socially the club had a huge weekend with Ladies Day, followed by the inaugural “Miss Bannockburn” pageant. 100 ladies packed the clubrooms, entertained by the incredible Ellectra Kute and Amanduh, who got everyone up and dancing. The drinks were flowing, bellies filled by the mouthwatering spread by Harvey’s Paddock and the photo booth was kept busy all night. The boys then joined us to crown our very first “Miss Bannockburn”. Luke, Lachie, Will, Jai and Meatballs looked stunning as the strutted their stuff down the runway, showcasing their talents and a little more………….. Luke took out the crown with an emotional acceptance speech. Thanks to the Alana, AJ, Emma and the senior netballers for bringing together such a fun night. Always a highlight of the social calendar.
This weekend we are off the Winch to take on the Blues. This could be a tough test for our senior boys, as well as some fierce battles on the courts, so get down to Eastern Reserve to support our teams. Go Tigers!
